Hendrick Frans de Cort (1742-1810)
Ref. DW-010
Pen and brown ink 43 x 61 cm Cort was a Flemish painter and draughtsman. He settled in London c. 1790 and remained there until his death. There he built up a highly successful practice as a painter of country houses, castles, cathedrals and other views, many of which were exhibited at the Royal Academy and the British Institution between 1790 and 1806. He was particularly successful in obtaining commissions from the nobility and other important patrons. These necessitated extensive travels through England and Wales, during which de Cort made large numbers of preparatory wash drawings.
